Rocky Mountain Dockdogs Competition at Broomfield Days, CO

My new book will be out SOON! It’s called A Travel for Taste: AppSnax and will be available on Amazon. It contains 20 of my most delicious recipes for appetizers, snacks and small plates. I tested and photographed each one (I do this for you!) and compiled them into a beautiful cookbook. The best part: the price is only $14.99!

I make these dishes often for guests, parties and potlucks, or for just binge-watching TV at home. I have published some of the recipes here on the blog, but most are brand new releases. Most of them are quick, and they are all definitely delicious!

More details about the book:

  • 58 pages
  • 10 no-cook/no-bake recipes
  • 10 cooked/baked recipes
  • Full-color photos of each finished dish
  • Appendix with extra complementary recipes
  • Alphabetical Index with cross-references
  • “Make-ahead” tags for easy planning
  • Notes section for each recipe with variations and tips to make things easy
  • Metric conversions of ingredient amounts and cooking temperatures

Subscribers will get first crack at ordering the book when it’s ready, so sign up today!

In the middle of September this year, my husband and I checked out Broomfield Days, an annual event here in our new town. It was a much bigger deal than I anticipated, with a very, very long parade, dozens of food vendors, a big car show and much more. I didn’t take my camera that chilly, rainy day, but we had great fun in the Mayberry-like atmosphere.

One of the events was a Dockdogs competition. Fortunately for me, it was the only two-day event that was part of Broomfield Days, which gave me a chance to get there with a camera. Another upside of Day Two was that this changeable Colorado weather had turned bright and beautiful.

I’d seen Dockdogs competition for a few minutes on TV before but never in person. The Rocky Mountain Dockdogs website informs us:

DockDogs is a sport in which dogs compete in distance or height while jumping from a 40 foot dock into water. There are three disciplines: Big Air (dogs are judged based on the distance jumped), Extreme Vertical (the dog that jumps the highest takes the prize) and Speed Retrieve (a doggy drag race where the fastest rules the pool).

While I don’t pretend to understand all the nuances of the competition, I think I got some pretty good shots. Here’s the playing field:

And my favorite photos:

A word of warning if you go to one of these: don’t stand too close to the end of the pool; your camera and you will get wet!
