Third in my series about North America's "oldest city", St. Augustine, FL. Interesting photos from around town with historical tidbits such as the Love Trees, Ripley's Believe It Or NoT!, the Freedom Trail from the Civil Rights Movement and shots of charming cobblestoned streets.
Built by the Spanish in the 17th Century, Castillo de San Marcos is a prominent feature of St. Augustine's coastline in Florida. It's the oldest surviving fortress in North America located in the oldest European-founded city. It's walls are made of coquina, a native stone. It's changed national hands a number of times and is reputed to be haunted as well. In addition, I've posted a Brazilain Daiquiri recipe included for summertime!
A good way to get an overview of the layout of North America's oldest city: boat tour in the intracoastal waterway just off St. Augustine, Florida. This week I posted photos from my Easter weekend in St. Auggie, 2015. Includes photos of the Bridge of Lions, St. Augustine Lighthouse and a 280-foot cross.
