Things to see and do in Munich, Germany, that aren't in most guidebooks; my husband and I have a project to see all the sights listed in '111 Things in Munich You Shouldn't Miss'. This week: Allianz Arena and Sunken Village.
Three times a year, Munich has a large, outdoor household goods market at Mariahilfplatz. There you can find everything from new pottery to used, flea-market fare, including books, postcards and clothing.
The personal residence of "Mad" King Ludwig II of Bavaria, Germany. This small and richly appointed castle is a bonus stop on the Neuschwanstein bus tour - and I'm so glad it is!
"Mad" King Ludwig II of Bavaria had the castle Neuschwanstein built for his reign. He died before taking up residence there, but it is a marvel of architecture and decor. The swan motif abounds and each room is themed after a Wagner opera.
