111 out of 111!

The last site of Munich in our favorite guidebook: 111 Things in Munich You Shouldn't Miss. It's the Marienklause, a forest-dark chapel on the banks of the Isar built after a dangerous flood by the grateful watchman who survived it. Includes photos of the Isar on a summer's day plus the footbridge and raft route over the river.

Medieval Castle Grünwald South of Munich

Medieval Castle Grünwald, just south of Munich, resides on the Isar near the Filmstadt of Bavaria. With artifacts from the Middle Ages and modern art like the sculptures of Schwanthaler, visitors can get a taste of the past while enjoying an upscale neighborhood.

More or less unique to Munich, at least in Germany, the Föhn is a weather phenomenon created by hot, dry wind coming off the north side of the Alps. It consists of unseasonably warm, sunny weather in winter. A perfect day for seeking out off-the-beaten-path sights in the Bavarian capital.

Discovering the Munich That Isn’t In the Guidebooks

Things to see and do in Munich, Germany, that aren't in most guidebooks; my husband and I have a project to see all the sights listed in '111 Things in Munich You Shouldn't Miss'. This week: Allianz Arena and Sunken Village.
