Love Locks on the Bridges in Paris

The love locks on bridges is creating a destructive problem in Paris, France, and in many other European cities. The weight of the locks destroys bridges, but I am so happy I got to photograph them before the city executes its plan for replacing the locked bridges with unlockable ones.

Even in the rain, Paris is a city with much to discover. This time I visited the passages couverts, or the covered passages. Straight out of the belle epoch, the passages are home to funky, one-of-a-kind bookshops, ateliers, textile shops, museums, second-hand shops, hotels and boutiques with all manner of intriguing articles.

After an amusing taxi ride, our little traveling foursome arrived at the medieval La Sainte-Chapelle in Paris. It's very near Notre Dame. The fascinating gargoyles adorning the facade were a fitting preface to the ornate interior. But the absolute best part of it was all the stained glass!

Andechs Abbey, Dießen and Herrsching in Southern Bavaria

On a hilltop in Bavaria just south of Munich lies the Andechs Abbey, famous for the monk-made beer, beautiful hiking, organic dairy and produce and an all-around monastery/brewery German experience. Nearby are the lakefront towns of Dießen and Herrsching, known to German locals as relaxing places to kick back.

Like an exotic spice market, Schuhbeck's spice shop in Munich, Germany, transports you the moment you step through the door. Schuhbeck is the most well-known Bavarian chef, and this spice shop, along with his restaurant and cooking school, reside near the famous Hofbrauhaus beer hall.

Czech Pickled Sausage Salad (Utopenci)

This cold, pickled sausage salad is a staple in Europe. The Germans have a similar dish called Wurstsalat. This is a Czech family recipe given to me when I lived there a few years ago. It makes a great snack, light meal, game day nosh or potluck dish.
