Raising the Maypole (Maibaum) in Bavaria near Munich

Each year on May 1st most European countries celebrate May Day, which is the equivalent of Labor Day in the US. Bavarians decorate a tall pole with an evergreen wreath at the top. It's a grand effort and ceremony to raise it. Then they, well, dance around the maypole! Here's my timelapse video of just such an event near Munich, Germany.

My First Ghost Town! Dearfield, Colorado

My first foray into what I hope is a long-running series: ghost towns. First up, Dearfield, Colorado, founded by O. T. Jackson in 1910. It's the site of a former African-American agricultural colony that thrived until the Great Depression and Dust Bowl of the 1930s. Here are photos of the ramshackle remains.
